The translation of Véry's novels into English was carried out by Emeritus Professor Alan Grimes.

My wife and I were fortunate in staying recently with Noél Véry and his wife Zöe for some days in Paris during the work of translating four of Véry's novels for publication. It was stimulating to discuss with Pierre Véry's son Noél his late father's methods, life and philosophy, and we were flattered by the hospitality provided.

The scripts of Goupi Red Hands and Goupi Red Hands in Paris have been vetted by Emeritus Professor John Fletcher, a professional translator, and I am most appreciative of his careful and critical appraisal of my work, as well as for his helpful comments on a number of translation problems. Translation is not an exact science and two translators will yield differences of interpretation. The translations offered on this website are my own versions, undoubtedly improved by exposure to Professor John Fletcher's keen editorial eye. However, responsibility for the final product is solely mine

Dr Terry Hale, formerly Director of the British Centre for Literary Translation, was very helpful in supplying photocopies of the typescripts of three of Véry's novels in the early days of this venture. He has also provided useful background data on Véry and the field of detective fiction. I am very grateful for his assistance.

My wife Elizabeth has been very supportive throughout this venture and especially constructive with her grammatical skills.
